A || Underground Pro-Hero Eraserhead: another firefly hero.

YAMIKUMO. || August 21XX : 12:06AM.

‘Eraserhead’ is an up-and-coming underground hero who’s quirk “Erasure”, allows him to temporarily disable the quirk of whoever he looks at.

It is commonly thought that Erasure is an emitter-type quirk, but I personally think that it could be a mutation-emitter type; affecting the occipital lobe of his brain, as well as potentially other sights as well (based strictly on his ‘red eyes’ when he uses his quirk, implying a level of melanin fluctuation that you wouldn’t see without specific mutations, but that would make sense since lower levels of melanin allow for ‘shadeless’ sight that is dulled with darker tones; also explaining the possibility of chronic dry eye or chronic eye pain, because switching between low-sensitivity and high-sensitivity to light is bound to have rebound.)*

The catch here is that Erasure only works on emitter and transformation-type quirks; not mutation quirks. It can theoretically disable mutative-mixed types of quirks (mutation-transformative + mutation-emitter), but against mutation quirks, he fights completely quirkless.

Using the scarce footage you can find online, Eraserhead primarily fights with a carbon-fiber alloy type ‘scarf’, known online as a capture weapon. Not only is this his primary weapon, but he also appears to never rely upon his quirk at all in-fight, seemingly just using it momentarily to gain a brief edge when fighting against transformation and emitter quirks.

[capturescarf.mov]

[capturescarf2.mov]

This means that, while using his quirk to gain advantage in certain scenarios and mashups, Eraserhead fights and operates (independently, might I add— underground heroes sign mostly with paper-based agencies and generally work alone) entirely quirkless, and seems to be making his way up the shadowed ranks of underground heroics, and, if his current progress is anything to go by, will soon be topping the (metaphorical) charts as the number one underground hero.

Aizawa Shouta is no stranger to the sight of shoes sitting at the edge of rooftops.

It’s especially common to see a very specific type of shoe; wide and white soles, thick black laces, and damningly bright red dye. As far as he knows, that’s the only color they come in, though there are low-top and high-top varieties.

He didn’t understand it, at first, twenty-three years of age as he scours online forums and search engines in a confused haze at 5:48 in the morning, fresh off patrol. The sun is rising, stark oranges bleeding into soft violet as he sips on his coffee from where he’s perched.

The results? Nothing.

Nothing, at least, until Akiko.

.

Akiko— as he soon learns, frequents rooftops late at night “considering”, whatever that means. He knows. He did it himself, at one point.

She’s obviously hesitant when he approaches him, head tilting to the side when he deliberately makes his footsteps louder. When he asks if she could step away from the ledge, she smiles and says that ‘nobody would care if someone like me fell’.

He reconsiders. And positions himself beside her, perching next to her and saying she’s free to talk if she wants. For a brief second, something like confusion flashes in her eyes before it levels out into something defensive.

“Don’t waste your time,” she spits. “not with someone like me.” And there it is again, the phrase ‘someone like me.’

“Someone like you?” he questions— there, the barest flick of a glance down to the shoes she’s wearing. White, widened soles with black laces and bright red dye, the high-top variety.

“Someone who’s quirkless.” the words are defensive, clipped and harsh as she stares at him like— like—

Like she expects him to leave after hearing that. “Okay,” he says, “Do you want to step away from the ledge, or would you rather come downstairs with me so we can stop at a café and talk there?”

She stares back at him, unblinking almost like she can’t believe that he doesn’t care. -He thinks of dirty red shoes at the edge of a rooftop. He can’t let that happen again.-

“You don’t—you don’t care.” He raised an eyebrow, praying that it doesn’t come off as condescending. “Having a quirk or not having one doesn’t mean you aren’t a human being. You deserve the same support and respect as everyone else—quirked or not.”

“Besides,” he says ruefully. “It would be illogical of me to even think that a lack of a quirk could define anyone, especially since a good part of my own hero work is done completely quirkless. You can’t erase mutations, or even quirks that people don’t use, after all.”

Shouta lets her talk, learns that her name is Akiko Takashima, and then eventually—when he finally works up enough courage to ask about the f*cking shoes, she explains the other biological differences that quirkless people have.

He makes the comment about seeing those specific shoes at the edge of roofs, and something defensive and angry flashes through her eyes—righteous anger, as she murmurs statistics and what sound like personal experience in a mumbly voice.

Shouta just listens, and, when Akiko mentions needing to get back home, he stands and helps her up, telling her to take care of herself before thanking her for answering his questions -he pretends not to notice how her face twists like she doesn’t get thanked often-.

Just as he’s about to leave, after making sure Akiko makes it down to the rows of windowsils without falling, she pauses.

“Wait, Eraserhead—“ Shouta blinks. She knew him? Seeming to sense his confusion, she clears her throat. “Someone on—someone I know did a.. review.. of a kind, on your quirk and hero career. Think of it as a comprehensive guide to your hero persona. Unbiased, of course.

"But.. I’ll spread the word about you. Tell everyone that you can be trusted.”

Shouta isn’t sure how to respond. He nods, and says softly, “I’d appreciate it.” he studies the fading bruises ringing the base of her neck. “Take care of yourself, Takashima.”

He leaves feeling like he’s about to be apart of something big.

Underground Pro-Hero ‘Eraserhead’ confirmed to be safe.

aki || November 21XX : 3:52AM.

everyone here is fairly familiar with how much time i spend out on rooftops at night and generally i don’t expect to meet any kind of pro hero when im out there.

tonight was different—because tonight i was approached by the underground pro hero eraserhead. and honestly the only reason i know anything about him is because of @YAMIKUMO. and his hero analysis on him a few months back.

but the reason im making this post is because not only does eraserhead work extremely well with potential suicide victims (from personal experience and testimony) he never once faltered in the handling of the ‘situation’ even after i told him that i was quirkless.

i was still curious and so i asked him why he didn’t mind (because f*ck if that isnt rare for us) he said that it doesn’t matter to him because above all ‘having a quirk or not having one doesn’t mean you aren’t a human being.’ and that ‘you deserve the same support and respect everyone else, quirked or not. at the end he tacked on that it would be illogical if he did since a fair portion of his fights are done entirely quirkless because his quirk doesnt help him in the situation

even after that had all been well and done he asked about the shoes, and if it was a signifier that someone was quirkless; i said yes and explained how quirkless people lack the ‘quirk’ gene that controls the extra bullsh*t we all have to deal with, like the toe joint and the hell that is wisdom teeth

when he said that he sees alot of them on rooftops, i did get kindof mumbly-angry (damn you @YAMIKUMO.) but he didnt seem to mind and after the entire conversation told me to take care and even thanked me for answering his question abt the shoes

so— all in all, eraserhead can be trusted. i don’t have any doubt about it— he’s safe.

After the rooftop encounter, Shouta starts looking. He starts noticing.

He checks quirkless statistics, commits them to memory, even. But more than that, he starts to really pay attention. To look out for the white-plaster buildings with paint chipping off the sides, the little red crosses that indicate a ‘safe’ clinic–that he’d read about briefly online, a link to a website that he couldn’t find again when he’d clicked on it. To scan the crowds for the signature bright-red dye, to keep his auditory attention on the back alleyways and to mentally checklist places he knows are safe for quirkless people.

The list isn’t very long.

Another thing he begins to pay attention to are the— are the looks. Not from regular people, no, but from every person wearing those damning red shoes.

They’re few and far between, but every time he sees someone– child, teen, never adult. They don’t seem to make it that far –wearing the red shoes that denote quirklessness, they just look at him. Some smile, some nod, and others have just.. a distant look in their eyes, like they can’t believe he’s real.

Shouta isn’t entirely sure what it is, but he’s almost 100% sure it has to do with the rooftop meeting with Akiko, and her mention of “spreading the word about him”.

Underground Pro-Hero Eraserhead cuts my unplanned party short.

bitterbutterflies || December 21XX : 7:42PM.

unsurprisingly, the number one dickhe*d duo that loves to beat the sh*t out of me did not, in fact, take my snarking kindly.

leading to the ending of the school day, where mr. paralysis himself and his knife-wielding best friend seemed hellbent on actually murdering me on school grounds. they get violent and physical a lot but they usually don't get this bad and im 100% sure that its because of what i said

anyway, mr. paralysis and his friend decide to corner me just behind the school, next to one of those dumpsters. (@YAMIKUMO. go wild w this part) now, i've given very slight descriptions of mr. paralysis quirk before, but basically it works by secreting a kind of fluid from his hands that lets him temporarily ‘paralyze’ anyone based on how much fluid he has on you. technically you won't be paralyzed but like. u cant talk or move and ur stomach gets soured because something something lack of peristalsis(?)

SO i'm there being put in my place as usual when there's a thumping noise from the other side of the dumpster and then knife wielding bestfriend like. yelps(?) and stumbles back, and suddenly i can move again.

upon further inspection it was, lo and beholden, our favorite under: eraserhead. apparently him erasing the quirk of mr. paralysis makes the fluid completely void on me even when he deactivates it.

anyway eraserhead threatens them with jailtime and lists out some charges for juvenile assault and eventually they [bullies] just leave from there and they don't even threaten me when they leave!

alas, because my story isn't over just yet. because not only has eraserhead taken the liberty of scaring off my bullies, he then helps me up and asks me if i know where the nearest hospital or emergency room is that ‘will actually treat you to their best abilities’

from there, i explained to him that regular hospitals and er’s don't actually.. you know, treat us, and from there he asked me if i knew where the nearest underground or safe clinic was, and if i can make it there myself. he doesn’t even elaborate really, just asks as a more of a side thing if i knew where the most well known ones were around the areas so that he could help in case something else like this happened and the person couldn't make it there on their own.

i asked if he knew that they were technically illegal, and he said it would ‘technically be illegal for me as a hero to go directly against my commission-sanctioned job description by shutting down a place that provides adequate care to those who need it’

homage to @aki , there isn't any doubt from me about whether he can be trusted or not. eraserhead is a real one.

It seems to happen more often than not, Shouta thinks, as he tucks another child (child, child, child, this twelve-year-old is a child, a baby.) against his chest, rubbing circles absentmindedly.

“Do you—did you mean that?” they ask in a small, shaky voice, looking up at him with wide and glassy eyes. “Do you really think that–that someone like me could–could make it?

“Of course,” he murmurs, “Of course I do.”

They sob a little harder after that.

Underground Pro-Hero Eraserhead: shorthand??

docjiyu || January 21XX : 3:02PM.

guys we need to find a nickname or shorthand for eraserhead because idk about you guys but ‘underground pro-hero eraserhead’ is hard to type

i'm just voting for eraser but we can shorthand it to like ‘void’ or something equally edgy on the rare occasion that someone knows of him

strikeout final answer

_____

It’s because he looks, because he notices that Shouta immediately latches onto the sight of bright-red shoes as he watches the UA practical exam.

They belong to a curly, green-haired boy who's running around the area, looking a little distressed.

He keeps an eye out for him, watching his peripherals for that just in case just in case just in case.

He turns his attention to the other examinees.

.

Shouta is confused.

He’s confused, and based on the look Nedzu threw him when he asked that one Midoriya Izuku be in his class, the f*cking rat knows exactly why. Damn principal having access to student files.

Midoriya Izuku.

One more name to the list he keeps meticulous track of.

He asks for Midoriya Izuku in his class, not only because he’s (was?) quirkless, but because his quirk use speaks of someone— speaks of someone who’s never used a quirk before. Not because it’s someone he can save. It’s someone who’s made it this far, who he can help nurture and secure a safe environment for, someone who can help him build irrevocable trust so that he can provide actual help to every child wearing red shoes at the edge of a too-high ledge.

Shouta asks for Midoriya Izuku in his class, and he pretends to not notice the way Yagi bristles beside him.

First Quirkless Student in UA?

by: Naruhata Kinato

According to exclusive inside sources, the prestigious UA has decided to accept their very first quirkless student into the support department!

The quirkless ban, as many people know, had been lifted in UA multiple years ago, thus allowing any quirkless person to apply and even enroll in their classes and curriculum. Of course this brings about many questions [Read more. . .]

–-

The first day of school at UA high passes.

Shouto doesn’t go to the orientation, and presents to his students his infamed quirk apprehension test, carefully watching Midoriya’s expression go from shocked, to confused, to betrayed (and f*ck if that didn’t make him want to cry), before contemplative, and then smoothing out in apprehensive relief.

In what would be an almost odd display of trust, Midoriya shoots a questioning look towards him, and Shouta nods, hoping that Midoriya can see his almost minuscule smile.

One of the students—a pink-skinned girl with black scleras—calls it fun, and he takes vindictive glee in the way the students faces’ fall flat (still studying as Midoriya’s face cycles through the same five emotions as before) as he announces the expulsion for last place.

Another student—brown hair, rosy blush—calls it unfair, and Shouta shuts that down immediately. Too many red-dye shoes at rooftop ledges, too many children sobbing into his chest or shoulder when he tells them that they deserve love and support, too many quirkless kids telling him their stories of abuse and dreams in a soft, choked off whisper as Shouta holds them close on cold rooftops has taught him better than that.

Midoriya ends up breaking a finger instead of his arm, which is almost impressive for it being the second time he’s ever used a quirk in the first place. (Midoriya looks at him, obviously seeking validation—validation that Shouta provides in a satisfied nod.)

Last place belongs to a small boy with purple balls on his head who looks about two seconds away from pissing himself in fear. Based strictly on his creepy demeanor to the other students, Shouta was honestly close to expelling him himself.

He didn’t, obviously, but a single transgression from him and he would be gone. Shouta refused to allow someone who has behavior like that to fester and grow. (And maybe, just maybe, he had his sights on another purple-haired gen-ed student who was sure to be a mental powerhouse with the right training.)

After leaving the students to their own devices, and carefully watching how they handled the freedom from his spot on the floor.

And finally, finally, the bell rings. Keeping his tone as even and flat as possible, he nods towards Midoriya. “Midoriya. See me after class.”

(He doesn’t miss the way a spiky-haired blond smirks when he says that, co*cky and full of arrogance. He makes a mental note of it.)

Quirked Account; Strikeout | Poll.

freemods. || October 21XX : 6:45AM.

alright everyone, how do we all feel about Strikeout having an account on the forum if @YAMIKUMO. confirms him as 100% without-a-doubt safe and to be trusted?

[100%] yes

[0%] no

[0%] indifferent

“You wanted to see me, sensei?”

Shouta nods, gesturing for Midoriya to follow him. “My office.” he clarifies.

Midoriya nods.

He settles down into his chair easily, when they get there, carefully leaning back and studying the green-haired boy as he sits, back stiff and eyes guarded.

Shouta waits, and it only takes a second for him to start.

“People talk, Aizawa-sensei.” Midoriya says quietly. “The word of even one quirkless person on these types of forums means so much to all of us. For you to not only show unconditional support, willingly provide company to people who are ending their life that night, help to keep open safe clinics and give us resources to places who will treat us with civility— that kind of thing is infinitely meaningful to all of us."

Shouta isn’t sure how he’s supposed to respond to that. “You seem to have gained a quirk,” he says, instead. Midoriya looks up at him, expression unreadable. “I want to know how I can help you. And I want to know how I can continue to help you with the lasting effects of abuse that I’m almost certain have occurred.”

Midoriya blinks a few times, shock still before his eyes begin to fill with tears, and his shoulders curl with little shakes.

Shouta panics, for a second, sitting up and leaning a hand out to the green-haired boy. Midoriya shakes his head, waving him off. “Sorry,” he gasps. “People— talk about how—how strange it feels to h—have those kinds of—of things said to you and I—“ he chokes on a sob. “I thought you—you might think— differently of me—me because I was-was quirkless and now—“

Shouta is over to him in a second, dragging a second chair so that he’s sitting right in front of Midoriya instead of separated by a desk. He tugs on his hand, letting Midoriya fall against his chest and loosely wrapping his arms around his too-small frame.

“Your quirk or lack thereof means nothing to me, Midoriya. Your worth as a person, has nothing to do with your quirk status. I want to help you, and I want to see you flourish like I know you can—quirked or not.” he sobs harder, clutching onto Shouta like a lifeline.

“Thank you, sensei,” he whispers, “You don’t—you don’t understand how much—how many lives you’ve saved. You—you don’t know the kind of difference that one persons—one quirked persons support makes for every one of us.”

Eventually, Midoriya will pull away.

He’ll pull away, and explain quietly the long-kept secret of One for All, and how he looked into it himself and learned of the major target it painted on himself, and how All Might hadn’t even told him about it. (About how All Might left him alone on a rooftop— how f*cking idiotic. Shouta would know)

And then, eventually, Shouta would punch the sh*t out of All Might for doing something stupid like that, and completely take over Midoriyas training regimens so he could get the help and counseling he required, and even beyond that, Midoriya would end up inviting him to join a quirkless forum, because apparently he’d made a name for himself as ‘Strikeout’. He’d agree despite the terms, obviously, what the f*ck, of course he would.

(And maybe he’d find the so-called review that Akiko had told him about so long ago, and realize why she’d stressed it like it wasn’t important because it was the most impressive asset Midoriya had, overpowered quirk factored in too, and if he hadn’t known better he would have guessed that he had an analysis quirk.)

But for now? Well, for now, Shouta will sit with him until he understands that he’s more than his quirk—or lack of one.
