The Pediatric Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Pediatric Trauma Program Manager and Medical Director to monitor and collect quality outcome and process measures, support analysis and reporting of quality and patient safety data. This position will support the design, implementation, and evaluation of system/patient care improvements specific to the pediatric trauma population. Additionally, this position will support evidence-based practices, reduction of medical/health care errors and other factors contributing to unintended adverse outcomes.
- Identify clinical outcome and process compliance trends/opportunities, prioritize, and recommend improvements.
- Systematic review and analysis of safety event reviews, root cause analysis, patient care issues, quality outcome, and process data.
- Identify risks and trends, prioritize action plans, recommend improvements, and oversee development of interventions and evaluation of desired.
- Collaborate with pediatric trauma leadership in supporting interdisciplinary team members in work to facilitate improved pediatric trauma patient safety and clinical quality throughout the enterprise.
- Mentor and train clinical leaders, providers, and frontline staff to collect, trend, and analyze data on a day-to-day basis to monitor clinical and operational processes.
- Provide guidance, facilitate, and work cooperatively with physicians/clinicians, administration, allied health, and support staff involved in the quality and performance improvement process to improve pediatric patient safety and clinical quality throughout the enterprise to enhance care management.
- Support the trauma registry and optimize data utilization to facilitate performance improvement activities, trends reports, and research.
- Conduct daily reviews of pediatric trauma patient care for compliance with care guidelines and policy.
- Enter quality metrics into the pediatric trauma registry.
- Work collaboratively with the Pediatric Trauma Program Manager to note trends in metrics.
- Work closely with the pediatric trauma and interdisciplinary health care team members throughout Stead Family Children's Hospital to support coordination, evaluation, and sustained implementation of clinical improvement activities.
- Educate interns, nurses, paramedics, and nursing assistants on Pediatric Trauma guidelines and documentation requirements to meet state and national quality standards.
- Provide support to pediatric trauma research priorities.
- Analyze data to ensure compliance with American College of Surgeons Level I Pediatric Trauma requirements and lead interdisciplinary healthcare teams to achieve these goals.
- Review pediatric trauma charts to make sure that documentation is complete and timely, and that care meets quality standards.
- Mentor and educate fellows, residents, and medical students to the needs and issues of the continuum of care throughout the trauma patients' stays.
- Educate nursing personnel on evidence-based practices.
- Abstract data from Epic and/or the Trauma Registry. Present this data to interdisciplinary pediatric trauma staff.
- Seek clarification of situations that appear not to meet standards, and work to get the whole picture of an event and provide constructive feedback.
- Report to the Trauma Medical Director any concerns about patient care and conduct of all of the members of our service line.
- Support development of and promote improvement in clinical care as members of the service line bring items forward.
Percent of Time: 50%
Schedule: Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 am-5:00 pm.
Location: Hybrid, potential for fully remote after training period.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.Pay Grade: 5ABenefit Highlights

Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of nursing experience in a trauma-based setting is required.
- Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Iowa is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to manage small and large group interactions.
- Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills, showing the ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and meet tight deadlines in situations both complex and sensitive in nature.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability in public speaking.
- Prior experience with performance improvement processes and initiatives.
