HAROLD E. BARBOUR
GILMORE - Harold E. "Barney" Barbour, 79, of 15227 New Georges Creek Road, Gilmore, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Gilmore, he was the son of the late Ralph Barbour and Jannie (Muir) Barbour.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Melvin Barber; and one sister, Pearl Willetts.
Mr. Barbour was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and an active member of the Gilmore Civic Improvement Club.
He retired from the Celanese Corp. with 48 years of service.
He attended the Midland United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Moore) Barbour; one daughter, Earlene (Barbour) Cutter and husband Ray, Midland; five sisters, Anna Magruder, Cumberland, Erma Wagoner, North Carolina, Ernestine Owens, Cumberland, Jeanette Barber, Gilmore, Charlotte Fisher and special friend Firn Hill, St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Tammy Michelle Cutter and R. Jeffrey Cutter.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lawrence Frye officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Pallbearers will be Dick Duckworth, Jim Walker, Eric Campbell, Mark MacDonald, Dick Jenkins, Glendale Howell and John Baker.
ANN GANOE BARNES
WALDORF - Ann Ganoe Barnes, 70, of Waldorf, formerly of Hampshire County, W.Va., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Three Churches, W.Va., to the late Melvin J. "Buck", and Gertrude (Lewis) Ganoe.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, David Elwood Barnes, Sr.; one son, David Elwood Barnes, Jr.; one daughter, Virginia Ann Barnes; and one brother, Ralph Ganoe.
Mrs. Barnes was retired with over 30 years of service as a contracting officer for the U.S. Army Material Command.
She was a member of the Berean Independent Baptist Church, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary #8950 to the VFW of Bladensburg.
She is survived by a son, Robert "Bobby" B. Barnes, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Susan K. Harding, Waldorf; two brothers, Louden Ganoe, Delaware, and Lewis Ganoe, Fort Ashby; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va., on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Dana Umbel officiating.
Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
EDNA MAY BARNES
FROSTBURG - Edna May Barnes, 88, formerly of Abingdon, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg.
Born Sept. 13, 1909, in Spencer, N.C., she was the daughter of the late George Calvin Karnes and Dolly (Walker) Karnes.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Stephen S. Barnes.
Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Cub Hill Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Edna M. Stinefelt and husband, William, Frostburg; one granddaughter, Edna M. Travers and family, Abingdon; one grandson, Stephen Stinefelt and family, Hawaii; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Brougham, Covington, Va.
Visitation and funeral services were conducted in Baltimore. Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
Interment was in the Moreland Memorial Park Cemetery, Parkville.
GLENN W. BARNES SR.
FLINTSTONE - Glenn W. Barnes Sr., 66, of Flintstone, died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at his residence.
Born March 3, 1931, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Herman and Zera (Jordan) Barnes.
He also was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Barnes.
Mr. Barnes was a former employee of Stroehman Bakery and Monarch Printing, Cumberland, and was currently employed by Fleetwood Travel Trailer, Hanco*ck.
He was a member of Fairview Christian Church, Artemas, Pa.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine (Cupp) Barnes; one son, Glenn W. Barnes Jr., at home; two brothers, Harold Barnes and wife Elsie, and Paul Barnes, all of Flintstone; and one sister, Naomi Thomas and husband Claude, Jasonville, Ind.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at noon with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Artemas.
Pallbearers will be Ivan Miller, Earl Beal, Bill Shreve, Warner Shingleton, Eldon Mills and Robert Mills.
PAUL W. BARNETT
CUMBERLAND - Paul William Barnett, 69, of 777 Bishop Walsh Drive, Cumberland, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 29, 1927, in Midlothian, he was the son of the late Lee C. Barnett Sr. and the late Bertha (Williams) Barnett.
Mr. Barnett and his brother Lee C. Barnett Jr. were partners in the law and insurance firm Barnett and Barnett for over 40 years. Their practice began at the Allegany Inn on Baltimore Avenue.
Later, they moved their practice across the street to its present location of 234 Baltimore Ave.
Mr. Barnett graduated from Beall High School, class of 1945; then received his associate of arts degree from Frostburg State University, and continued his education at the University of Maryland where he graduated from law school, class of 1954. He was a member of the American Bar Association; Maryland State Bar Association; University of Maryland School of Law Alumni Association; and Beall High School Alumni Association.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Coast Guard. He served as trial magistrate of Allegany County; Allegany County Attorney; former school board attorney; former member of the Democratic State Central Committee; member of the Maryland Department of Human Relations; candidate for the Allegany County Circuit Court Judge; taught law courses at Allegany College of Maryland; member of the Cumberland Country Club; Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion; Henry Hart Post VFW 1411; BPOE Elks Lodge 63; past president of Kiwanis Club where he recently received a 35 year pin. Mr. Barnett was an avid golfer, bowler, fisherman, and hunter.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Sylvia (Simmons) Barnett; two sons, Thomas Lee Barnett, at home, and William Paul Barnett and wife Monica, LaVale; a brother, Lee C. Barnett Jr. and wife Lois, LaVale; a sister, Betty M. Davis, Cresaptown; a grandson, Garrett Lee Barnett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Chaplain Major Robert Henderson and the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by combined veteran's honor guard. BPOE Elks Lodge 63 will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Donald Davis, John Bowman, Bruce Simmons Jr., Scott Simmons, Steven Diggs and Bryan Diehl. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Martin Sr., James Goldsworthy, Frank Deremer, Bruce White, Dale Merritt, Donald Miller, and David Phillips.
BETTY J. BARRY
FROSTBURG - Betty J. Barry, 77, of 74 W. Main St., Frostburg, died Monday, Aug. 11, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 10, 1920, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Maude (Jenkins) Taylor.
She also was preceded in death by one sister, Maude Kroll.
Mrs. Barry was a homemaker and was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years Paul E. Barry; three sons, John W. "Jack" Barry, at home, Paul E. Barry and wife Rosalie, Marlton, N.J., and Benjamin A. Barry and wife Donna, Mount Airy; two brothers, George B. Taylor, LaVale, and Robert N. Taylor, Winchester, Va.; one grandson, Christopher Barry; and one great-grandson, Tyler Barry, both of Glen Burnie.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Aist officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
PHYLLIS C. BARTON
FROSTBURG - Phyllis C. Barton, 49, of Merriman Street, Frostburg, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, in Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born in Frostburg on May 19, 1948, the daughter of Christine (Brodie) Thrasher of Midland and the late Raymond Thrasher.
Mrs. Barton was a member of the Carlos United Methodist Church and was co-owner of Barton's Auto Sales and Towing.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Barton; a daughter, Cami C. Martin and husband Aaron Martin of Frostburg; a brother Raymond Thrasher of Midland; sisters-in-law Sheila Richards and husband Dave, Frostburg, Carolyn Ternent and husband John, Bel Air; a grandson, Hunter James Martin; special friends Kathy Young, Stacey Whetzel, both of Lonaconing, and Barbara Nicol, Frostburg; a special cousin, Andree Morgan, Lonaconing; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Frost Mansion Funeral Home, 58 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.
At Mrs. Barton's request, her body will be cremated. Inurnment will be held in Frostburg Memorial Park.

RUBY G. BATEMAN
WESTERNPORT - Ruby Grace Bateman, 86, formerly of 466 Walnut St., Westernport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born June 20, 1911, in Altamont, she was the daughter of the late Charles Isaac and Carrie May (Lee) Wright. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hugh Bateman, in 1988.
Mrs. Bateman was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Westernport, where she taught Sunday school for 29 years, and was active in the women's ministries.
Surviving are two sons, Charles H. Bateman, Deer Park, and Arthur H. Bateman, San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Ann Wiles, Westernport; two brothers, Charles Wright, McHenry, and Lyle Wright, Cumberland; two sisters, Geraldine Rodeheaver, Friendsville, and Kitty Savage, McHenry; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the First Assembly of God Church on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Schloe and the Rev. Donald Webb officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
