Highlights
- Resonators in Wuthering Waves are categorized as Mutant or Natural based on their unique Waveform graph data.
- Mutant Resonators like Chixia, Baizhi, Danjin, Sanhua, Mortefi, and Jiyan each offer different strengths and playstyles.
- Players can strategically build their team with Mutant Resonators to maximize their performance in various team compositions.
According to Wuthering Waves’ lore, scientists have been studying awakened Resonators for years, categorizing them based on their Waveform graph data. Some Resonators are considered Mutants because of their irregular Rabelle’s Curve. In the game, a "Mutant Resonator" is a person with a non-convergent Rabelle’s Curve, which shows a steep rise in the middle. The Resonators who fit this definition are Chixia, Baizhi, Danjin, Sanhua, Mortefi, and Jiyan. The big question is, which of these six Mutant Resonators in Wuthering Waves are the best, and how do they compare to each other?

Wuthering Waves: Every Natural Resonator, Ranked
Wuthering Waves’ Natural Resonators might not be as dominant as their Mutant counterparts, but here’s how they’re ranked in the current metagame.
The following tier list ranks all Mutant Resonators of Wuthering Waves based on their performance and skills, showing which ones are worth the player’s investment. The list reviews each character’s effect on the metagame and their practicality in different team compositions. However, before diving into the list, note that a Resonator’s Rebell’s Curve being Mutant, Natural, or Congenital doesn’t affect their stats or skills in actual gameplay — this categorization is only based on Wuthering Waves’ lore.
6 Chixia
The Best Budget Ranged Fighter
- Element: Fusion
- Weapon: Pistol
- Rarity: 4-Star
Chixia could be the least favorite Mutant Resonator for two primary reasons: limited AoE damage and lengthy field time. Despite this, Chixia is one of the best early-game pistol wielders due to her straightforward gameplay. Her strength as a ranged fighter lies in her mobility.
With her sliding move, she can reposition quickly, confusing enemies while dealing damage. Even better, Chixia is a free Mutant Resonator that players unlock after a few main quests, making it easier to invest in her Dupes. (However, investing in Chixia may not be the most lucrative option for players seeking the best long-range Resonator.)
5 Baizhi
The Best Early-Game Support Option
- Element: Glacio
- Weapon: Rectifier
- Rarity: 4-Star
Baizhi is the closest a team can get to having an affordable healer. Thanks to her healing abilities, Baizhi is a versatile Resonator who can be easily integrated into all META compositions. However, her ultimate advantage is her fifth Sequence, which allows her to revive a fallen teammate.
Baizhi is not the perfect support for Wuthering Waves teams, as she is outperformed by Verina, the best support in the game. Nonetheless, Baizhi is considered a must-have in all early-game teams that lack durability.
4 Danjin
The Best Parry Stealer
- Element: Havoc
- Weapon: Sword
- Rarity: 4-Star
Danjin is one of the fastest sword wielders in the game, making her a perfect Resonator for executing parries. She is also a reliable sub-DPS with excellent base damage. Additionally, Danjin's gameplay is quite satisfying, creating visually entertaining moments in Wuthering Waves, akin to 5-Star characters like Jiyan.
The only downside to having Danjin on the team is her low durability, which can lead to the entire team becoming overly reliant on support characters. However, a maxed-out Danjin brings so much raw power to the team that it becomes easy to overlook her downsides. Many believe that the introduction of Changli will positively impact Danjin's metagame ranking.
3 Sanhua
The Best Burst Damage Inflictor
- Element: Glacio
- Weapon: Sword
- Rarity: 4-Star
Senhua is an incredible budget choice for burst damage. She quickly gains concerto energy on the field, and her skills are easy to trigger since she's energy-effective. When she's on the field, her ice-based traps can surround enemies, allowing her to detonate them all and deal extra damage.
This passive gain makes her basic attacks a vital part of her kit, which is a bonus considering that Sanhua is a free character. One downside of running Sanhua in META teams is her upgrade requirements. Only after unlocking her first few Sequences and equipping her with a top-tier weapon can she truly thrive.
2 Mortefi
The Best Sub-DPS
- Element: Pistol
- Weapon: Fusion
- Rarity: 4-Star
One of the best pistol wielders in Wuthering Waves, Mortefi serves as a perfect sub-DPS, especially in Jiyan-first teams. His ATK buff and reliable solo damage make him the ultimate companion. Additionally, Mortefi boasts one of the better Resonator designs in the game, with eye-catching animations and top-notch voice acting.
However, Mortefi comes with a downside—he is a pricey character. He's challenging to unlock, and even when he is in the team, he demands higher Sequences and S-tier guns. Nevertheless, when equipped properly, Mortefi becomes a force to be reckoned with. High-ranking players tend to favor Mortefi over Chixia as their go-to Resonator despite each offering unique utilities that are valuable in different situations.
1 Jiyan
The Best Main DPS
- Element: Aero
- Weapon: Broadblade
- Rarity: 5-Star
Hailed as the best Aero Resonator in the entire roster of Wuthering Waves, Jiyan easily tops the list of Mutant characters as well. He has everything a main DPS should have: speed, range, and power. Thanks to his ability to control and gather enemies in one place, Jiyan serves as an AoE placeholder who can deal burst damage to all nearby enemies at once.
Even better, he's not overly reliant on his Sequences or even his exclusive 5-Star weapon. Players can start relying on his kit right after unlocking him. The only downside to Jiyan is that he's a 5-Star Resonator, meaning players are unlikely to unlock him until they reach the end-game content.
